Oh me oh my. To those who live in the hot climes, I salute you. Three days in Palm Desert's 110 degree heat was much MUCH more than enough for me. How hot was it exactly?? Hot enough to convince three of our rather manly mens to join the gaggle of girls in the air conditioned comfort of the nail salon for manicures and pedicures, rather than hanging at the pool for cocktails. THOSE are some inhospitable environs!
The wedding was fun -- although I question my friend's sanity on scheduling the ceremony for 5pm, outside, with no shade (!) -- and it was great to see my old grad school crew and spend time hanging out and catching up. They rock.
On the knitting front, I hardly had a minute to pick up my needles, although I took time on the plane to tweak Dune a bit (added a bit of width, raised the v-neckline, minimized the pretty severe waist shaping) and swatched the Summer Tweed. As others have mentioned, there is no memory/no give at all to the yarn, and my particular batch smells like machine oil -- blehk.
And thanks so much to everyone for their compliments on the Ponchofication. I have a draft of the pattern modifications done, and am waiting to hear back from Taiu at Koigu for the okay to make them available. Rob was kind enough to pass her super secret e-mail address on to me, so hopefully I'll hear back from her soon.
Hi there!
Just wanted to share that I am working with the Summer Tweed as well. From what I understand, that weird oily smell and residue is the raw silk that is used in the yarn. It leaves a bit of the oil on your hands as well. Nothing to be alarmed about, it comes out when you give it the first wash (or so I was told). I compared it to some of my other raw silks and it smells the same, so I am inclined to believe the story. BTW, it knits up like a dream - fast and smooth. hope that helps =)
