We had a playdate in the next town over this morning, so I got up a little early and packed us up some lunch.
My lunch is packed in a two-tiered pink bento box that I bought at Daiso in San Jose for $1.50 (I HEART Japanese dollar stores!!!). The top tier has strawberries and raspberries for Miss H (if I pack them with her lunch she'll ignore her lunch and chow down on the fruit first). The bottom tier has brown rice with a little furikake (Japanese rice seasoning sprinkles), leftover Korean BBQ beef, cucumber and cherry tomatoes:
Miss H's lunch is packed in a single tiered bento that matches the one that I have and also was $1.50 at Diaso. I packed brown rice mixed with furikake in fish shapes (the fish just aren't photographing well), edamame/corn/red bell pepper medley, cucumbers and cherry tomatoes:
It was quick to pack -- pretty much everything was already in the fridge -- and tasty to boot. Miss H really loves rice, so pressing them into shapes makes it much easier and less messy for her to eat. I found very cute rice molds at Daiso as well -- in addition to the fish there's a teddy bear and elephant -- and am definitely going to get more shapes the next time I'm in the vicinity of a Japanese grocery or Japanese dollar store. Bentos are fun!!
Great weekend to everyone!
